I wanted to write about what a great experience I had at Danube last Friday. We were a bit late for our reservations, but they seated us after a short while. We opted not to do the tasting menu so that we wouldn't leave there in a wheelbarrow, but we still ended up leaving stuffed!
We both started with apps - I had the foie gras and my girlfriend had the ravioli. Both were excellent and just the right size. Next, I had the sturgeon and my girlfriend had the almond crusted halibut. The portions were just the right size (not too small and not too big), and each fish was prepared excellently. At this point, we remarked that it was good that we didn't feel overly stuffed. Boy, did we speak too soon!
We each ordered a dessert (me, the fruit crepes, her - the chocolate hazelnut souffle). Our desserts were amazing, of course (esp. the souffle), but what was even more impressive was the parade of "other items" that the kitchen sent out for us! They brought us another DELICIOUS desert (something like raspberry with a light and fluffy fillign on top??), an extra dish of ice cream, and then biscuits and sweets to finish it all off. We kept eating even though we couldn't fit anything else in our bellies! And to top it off, they gave us a cute little fruitcake "to go"!
In addition to the exquisite cuisine, Danube was cute and charming, the perfect "couples" destination. We waited in the small bar and then sat in the also-small dining room. The lighting and decor was perfect. The only critique I have is that there were quite a few servers and people around all the time, and some of the servers were not as good at explaining what we were brought (as compared to the very knowledgeable waiter).
All in all, it was a PERFECT experience, and we'll hopefully go back some day soon.
