I don't usually post but our first trip to Dante's kitchen tonight was so good that I have to tell. We went with 8 people so I tasted almost everything on the menu: was not disappointed with a single thing. It's a casual place but very quaint: a porch swing and nice shady outdoor seating. Plus the BEST GRITS in the city-- and if there are some better, please tell!
~Shared a Crab & Brie French Toast: had a smoky tomato sauce and two huge slabs that I almost fought my girlfriend for.
~The special app. was cucumber rolls stuffed with crab and a mango-sauce, only regret was there wasn't more.
~Also tasted the shrimp gazpacho, which was fairly good (though I don't like gazpacho); no cream like they do it at Lolas.
~Ordered the Trois Mignons, medium rare: 3 preparations of beef, one with cheese sauce, one topped with pulled pork and the last with a red-wine glaze. I loved the pork but was most impressed with the marchand du vin glaze; very complex. Not to mention creamy potatoes with bits of carmelized onion.
~Other highlights I tasted: the gulf fish w/ truffled grits (I told you!), Roasted Duck w/ andouille & cornbread dressing, and a very thick Pork Chop with jalapeno-goat-cheese grits (!).
Dessert: didn't have room after tasting so much.
We probably looked crazy passing plates around but the waitress was very cool and snappy; service was perfectly slow. Highly recommended!
