I've mentioned this place before. It's just a little taco truck near the new Home Depot. I've been there many times since it's one of only two taqueria-style tacos in The Dalles despite a very solid percentage of Mexicans. It's always been good, but nothing special. I went there recently, though, and it was fantastic. Some of the best taco meat I've had in a while and both salsas were excellent. I got the carnitas, cabeza, and carne asada. The carnitas were nicely seasoned, tender, with golden, crusty bits. The cabeza (truly just cachete, or cheek) was tender and moist, without an overly strong beef head flavor. It had a crust on it as well, like they had seared it before steaming or stewing it. Probably the best beef cheek I've had and it's something I often order. The carne asada was perfect as well. The small bits had lots of caramelized surface area, were well-seasoned, and weren't overly dry. Very good. Except for the fact that they were using pre-made tortillas, they were fabulous tacos. Anyone who loves tacos and is travelling through the gorge should give them a try.
