dad in town for nice dinner -- downtown

My father is coming to town for dinner, and once again I get to/have the burden of making a reservation. I need your help.

To give you a sense of what I'm looking for, in the past we have gone to and enjoyed WD 50, 71 Clinton, The Grocery (years ago when I lived in Park Slope), and most recently Hearth.

I'm looking for something below 23rd St. The food should be the first priority, but I'd like to avoid anything with a very formal/stuffy atmosphere, and my father would like to avoid anything where the tables are too cramped or that has anything but gracious service. I don't have a real preference for food type, but it should be very very good. In keeping with the request for a more casual atmosphere, it would be great if the prices could be a little lower than through the roof. (i.e. entrees in the 20's, not the 30's).

Thanks in advance.
