Crepevine Walnut Creek and Sur La Table

Have had the opportunity to have lunch twice now at the new Crepvine restaurant in Walnut Creek on N. Main (where Ono Maze used to reside). The menu, I'm almost sure, is identical to the one in Rockridge but since I hadn't eaten at Rockridge for awhile, it was relatively new to me.

First lunch was the Tuna Melt sandwich. Made the right call ordering it on foccacia bread. The bread was very fresh and soft and not too herby - I like my foccacia that way. Like all the meals, came with a heaping side of home fries (small, chunky potatoes with onions and rosemary) and a large portion of lightly dressed greens. Too much food even for my 9 month pregnant appetite!

Second time, I decided to actually try a crepe since we were at a crepe shop. Tired the Santa Fe with chicken apple sausage, scrambled eggs and salsa. Very good sausage flavor which combined well with the eggs -the salsa was a bit lame almost like an afterthought to the dish ("hey we named this one the Santa Fe, better put something Southwestern on there!")

Finished up with a super yummy Riviera crepe (butter, lemon and orange liqueur) which came with whip cream and ice cream (this really impressed DH).

Menu is quite large - lots of crepes, sandwiches, scrambles, pastas and salads to choose from. Looks like they also do several breakfast items which will give WC a much needed new choice for breakfast.

I also noted they have $5 drink specials all day on items like Bloody Marys, Margaritas, etc. The wine list was nothing special but certainly serviceable. We'll check that out after baby comes.

The restaurant is making good use of the old space including some very nice outdoor seating (a must in Walnut Creek IMO). The owner was there both times and was very friendly and attentive. At one point he went around the restaurant and handed out free t-shirts to all the little ones eating here.

On another note, while walking off our lunch we headed over towards Nordstrom and noticed that on the street Nordstroms and all other Broadway plaza shops are on, right next door to PF Chang's, workers are busy constructing a new Sur La Table. (sign says opening October 2005) nteresting since as DH so gently put it, "if you could spit over PF Chang's you could spit on Wllliams Sonoma from here". Should give WS a bit of a run for some of the business in WC.
