A Cook's Guide to Chicago

is a must-have for those who want to get a bead on Chicago's ethnic markets. Marilyn Pocius has written an excellent primer on what the city has to offer in terms of ingredients and supplies--all broken down by ethnicity.

It's not an exhaustive treatise, nor should it be. She hits all the rights spots (and many that have been highlighted on the Board): Chicago Food Corp. (Korean); Thai Grocery; Hi-Mart (Asian kitchen equipment warehouse); Royal Industries (kitchen supplies); and many many more.

I got mine at Border's.
