Unlike ipsedixit, I would not be subject to punishment for paying $5 for dimsum, and it was worth it to try out numerous varieties at Bao and The Palace to ascertain the state of westside dimsum. However, neither am I one to throw away my money, which makes Chynna a more difficult proposition due to its downtown location. Indeed, it was grudgingly that I shelled out for two items there, not enough to make a wholly fair assessment of the food, but the most I could spend in good conscience with Chinatown so close. I had the baked bbq pork bun and the scallop dumpling. This was certainly the hottest, freshest dim sum I've ever eaten. Both were decently good, indeed the baked pork bao was quite good. But if this is haute dim sum, most of the dim sum in the SGV is haute dim sum, for half the price. I guess if you want to go some place to hang out with your friends after work, or have dim sum for dinner (they don't open until 5 pm), Chynna would be OK. But the rest of you shouldn't bother. Chynna is at 333 S. Alameda St., #115, which puts it outside of the enclosed portion of the mall, across from the parking structure.
