Coming back to Philly for the weekend on Friday to visit and to go to a concert.
Two years ago I lived on 4th and Fitzwater, and always enjoyed places like Standard Tap, N. 3rd, New Wave, and Royal Tavern. I really liked the wings and margaritas at Copa on South St., but that's a different story. I always used to wait tables at El Vez, but that REALLY a different story.
We're coming in on Friday at about 9:30 from NYC, travelling with 2 others, mostly safe eaters, and staying with a friend at 18th and Spruce.
Looking for something similar to the places I mentioned above, but local to the 'hood as we'll be hungry. Saturday I'm trekking down to QV again to gorge myself at Dmitri's.
I recommended Good Dog, but my friend was non-plussed. I remember a decent meal there soon after it opened. I'm saying no to Monk's because a) I think it's overrated b) it's wayyyyy too smoky and c) we can't do a 2-hour wait. Like I said, we're going to be hungry. And I want a place that has a little Philly personality as we're coming from NYC. And no, I don't mean Marathon.
How's the food at Ten Stone? I went there once for drinks.
Any other recommendations???
