I love the Hawaii Board and peruse it fairly often. My wife and I are coming to Oahu September 14-26 (Yeah, really last minute)
We're not that much into higher end dining; We love the local food. Wife is from here so much of our eating will be at our long time favorites:
Rainbow Drive In
Bubbies ice cream
Thang French Coffee for mango smoothies
Ailana, tho there was an ownership change
Young's Fish Market
Made In Hawaii
Pancakes and Waffles
Teddy's Bigger Burgers
Honolulu Coffee Co.
Kua Aina Burgers
Whole Ox Deli
(we're not going to be able to hit all of them, tho)
I do have a number of questions for some places we want to try and your suggestions.
Is there a tsukemen ramen shop in Oahu? It has been really popular in LA. Instead of broth, you dip the noodles in a spicy dipping sauce. Love to try it if you have it. I figure anything popular in Japan would hit Honolulu soon.
Our go-to dim sum place has been Mei Sum, but our last time to their newer location was disappointing. What do you think is the best dim sum in Honolulu? Also opinions on Little Village?
Kamuki Man wrote a glowing review of Honolulu Burger. I'd like to try there, maybe instead of Kuwa Aina.
My cousin visited last month and liked Pioneer Saloon in Waikiki for Japanese style plate lunch. Any mention here?
Kimukatsu is coming to LA, and I'm looking forward to trying it. Just want to know what you all think about it.
Finally wanting to get to Nico's. But also thinking about Uncle's Fish Market (wife loves fish & chips)
Also wanting to try:
Uncle Clays for shave ice.
Kamehameha Bakery for poi donuts
Dean's Drive Inn
Uahi Island Grill
Your Kitchen for shave ice
I will be online constantly, so greatly appreciate any feedback.
