Can't believe there isn't a thread on this Vanderbilt Ave. ramen joint.
My first visit last night, as the snow started falling, was (mostly) delightful.
The wait for a table or counter seat can be 30-60 minutes and it was clear, from the hostesses' directions, we were NOT welcome to wait in the small entry way. They'll take your cell # and give you a call when your table is ready. We barely sipped our beer when my phone rang, far less than 30 minutes later.
Kale salad was outstanding. I know kale is becoming a cliche, but this combination of crispiness and tenderness was delightful. Shrimp bun was unexciting, but tasty, with a fish sauce.
Highlight was the vegetable ramen. So few ramen joints make vegetarian ramen (yes, I know that's an anachronism. It's the beef and/or pork that makes ramen ramen). The vegetables were squash, cabbage and spinach. The noodles done perfectly and the broth complex.
Priced at $13, you might just have enough for the next day's lunch.
Try the unfiltered sake ($20 a bottle).
Service was outstanding: the young lady behind the counter was very attentive and friendly, the other servers efficient.
