Faced with a shopping burden on Christmas Eve this year, I caved and didnt do my Christmas baking. It worked out fine, thanks to the riches of Brooklyn.
From Royal Crown (14th and 64th, with other locations)- their homemade pannetone, chestnut bread and baked figs
From Leskes (5th Ave and 76th) - my first visit and not my last, I stood in line with the local scandinavians and irish for excellent, buttery stollen (this was different from my homemade but wonderful), a pecan "danish" pastry ring, also extremely rich, Kringler, a big pate choux pretzel filled with whipped cream, pastry cream and strawberry jam (they had other types too), our Christmas dessert, and very good irish soda bread which we froze and ate on New Years day.
