My partner and I are coming to NYC from Vancouver for a week as his birthday present from me.
I'm looking for a fabulous place to plan a special birthday dinner -- his birthday is Christmas eve. (Everything in Vancouver is always closed on Christmas eve, so I'm excited to have the opp'y to plan something.)
Money's not really an object for this dinner. We travel frequently and thus enjoy many types of food, so I don't really have my heart set on a particular type of food, either.
What I am looking for are some recommendations on somewhere very special -- something unique in decor, ambiance, etc. -- but the food must also be impeccable.
We're a young, creative couple and we're not really interested in the "old standards" that get listed in all the travel books. Anywhere in the city is great, though we tend to end up in the Village, Chelsea, Tribeca, etc. whenever we visit NY.
I know I'm not giving much to go on, but I'd really like to hear your ideas for spectacular, unique places that have great food, and oh, yeah, they've gotta be open on Christmas Eve! I'd really like to make this one special for him.
P.S. -- I'm active on the Vancouver Chowhound board and would be happy to offer any recommendations to anyone visiting my city!
