Chowhound Bread Tasting

Chowhounds,

Just wanted to say thanks to Mike and Melissa for hosting and also to my fellow Chowhounds for an enjoyable afternoon. My favorite breads were, in order, Melissa's, Medici, Red Hen and Fox and Obel, though the consensus, after Melissa's, seemed to be Fox and Obel.

I really enjoyed the food everyone brought and made, who says Chowhounds only go out to eat. Melissa's terrine was terrific, as was Mr. Barolo's white bean spread, Aaron's cheese cake, Carolyn was eating the cheese cake spread on bread, what a great idea, and Al E's asparagus and red pepper. Carolyn and Mr. Hammond brought lightly marinated veggies that were delicious, but, maybe, a little too healthy.

Josh brought a three milk cheese from the Carr Valley called Canaria, which I really enjoyed and, among others, a Banon from Capriole Farms. The Banon is a chestnut leaf wrapped goat which I really enjoy. Josh bought the cheeses at The Cheese Stands Alone. Ed F brought a veritable picnic, wonderful cheese and Columbus sausage including an 'interesting' cheese that Al E so delicately suggested had some of the same characteristics as andouillette. Ed picked everything up at the newly revamped Caputo's Cheese.

RevrendAndy brought both Normandy butter and tangy cultured butter from Vermont that really complimented the gravlax and the various jams and jellies were wonderful, with Melissa's home made tomato lemon jam leading the pack. Da Mayor and CQ brought, along with their sweet little girls, vodka, which Da Mayor pointed out was like drinking liquid bread. That's why he's the Mayor, always thinking. I'm sure I forgot to mention some deliciousness or other that people brought, old age and Aquavit will do that to a fellow.
