Five members of the Greater Reno Grape and Gripe Group got together Oscar night for dinner at Sezmu in Reno. The food at Sezmu was great. I DVRed the Oscars and I’d say we got the better end of the deal with the good company and good food.
Joining me at Sezmu were Bill and Linda, Allie and NVJims. It was fairly quiet as we arrived at 6 p.m. I thought we were going to get the big table but they seated us at a six-person table near the door, which was fine.
I decided to go with the four-course tasting menu for $55. It started with a Hamachi appetizer followed by a salad and then boar as an entrée. They called the boar a duo. Part of it was boar carnitas and there was also a chop. The Hamachi was nice and fresh. I can’t remember much about the salad other than it was good.
Then the boar arrived. The carnitas was delicious but surprisingly small. Like maybe a tablespoon. It was accompanied by something that was kind of a chimichanga/egg roll type of contraption. Tasty but small. The boar chop was a little tough but tasty. I liked my entrée choice.
Allie got pork osso buco for her entrée; Bill got a chicken cassoulet; I think Linda got a short rib dish; NVJims got duck. Everyone seemed to like their entrees.
For my final course, I got to pick any item off the dessert menu. I went with the brownie Sundae. It was two towers of a brownie, chocolate ice cream and melted marshmellow with whipped cream holding the towers together.
All in all the meal was a success.
Light was dim so the photos are grainy.
