It seems from the dying down of traffic in the planning thread that we have reached a pivotal moment in the genesis of the First Ever Chicago Chowhound Chowdown. At this moment, I think we should hammer down a few details, and set the stage for what will follow. If any of the details I provide here seem peculiar or wrong or out of line with what has been settled in the other threads, or presumptuous in an inappropriate way, please let me know.
The Place: Lao Sze Chuan
2172 S Archer Av
The Date: Sept 2, 2001
The Time: 7:00?
The Guests: Any one that wants to come! VitalInfo (firstname.lastname@example.org) has graciously offered to be the repository for RSVP's. When you know how many you'll be, let him know. Even if you have already posted your intention to attend on the board, email it to him to confirm so we can come up with a final count. I think we should try to get responses in by tuesday morning. That way we can call the place with the final count and still have enough time to haggle over details like the menu, the price etc.
The Program: Eating a chinese banquet. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes for us to go with a preset menu.
The cost: that'll depend on the menu: personally, i think we should shoot for $25-30 a person, but that may be inappropriately high or inappropriately low. Tony (our new friend at Lao Sze Chuan) is going to fax me a menu, and told me special items that are not on the menu can appear at the banquet.
So, that's that. Email VitalInfo@aol.com with the number of people you plan to come with. More updates to follow. Again, let me now if I've made any missteps.
