Finally visited a couple of places on my longtime "To Chow" list.
First, Reuben Schwartz's at 327 King Street West. Tried the Reuben sandwich with fries. The hand-cut Yukon gold fries were amazingly good. The sandwich on the other hand was a travesty. Piled high with some dry, some moist, meat. Teeny bread that almost made it an open-face sandwich. Copious amounts of sauerkraut that grew bigger the faster I ate it. And the biggest shame of all. Processed cheese.
On a happier note, Greg's Ice Cream (southside of Bloor West, just west of Spadina) lived up to the hype. Tried the roasted marshmallow and shared some of my friend's banana nut bread. The mallow had so many layers of flavor it is too complex to describe. And the banana nut bread screamed freshly "baked." Will definitely be back. And it is so easy to get to...just hop off at Spadina subway station!
