So here's the challenge: I'm going expense-account dining with a friend who's gotten (somewhat enviably?) jaded with the four-star restaurant scene. Looking for something off the beaten track... preferably NOT French, Italian, or Japanese!
I am thinking along the lines of Tabla or Aquavit - 3 or 4 star service and quality, yet a bit more challenging to the palette than the usual. Otherwise, a really unique atmosphere could also work:
Hungarian with violins?
Serbian with candlelight and dancing?
Upscale Spanish tapas?
Solid wine list a plus. Preferably in Manhattan, but venturing a small way out into the boroughs is a possibility.
Looking forward to the imaginative suggestions!!!
