Chocolate Bar - Reno (longish)

The increasingly hip area around the Nevada Museum of Art and California St just got a little hotter....with the opening of the Chocolate Bar. Its a cool concept: kind of a combination desert cafe, coffee house and bar, with retail sales of chocolates thrown in. There is a full bar, but they specialize in alcoholic drinks with a chocolate theme. However, there are plenty of non-alcoholic choices as well. They have about six different kinds of hot chocolate, all obviously the real deal. I had the West African Hot Chocolate: dark chocolate, cream, espresso, and vanilla in a frothy and rich combination.....The best hot chocolate I've tasted since I was in Paris! Hubby settled for the so-called plain hot chocolate, and declared it delicious! Next time, I'd like to try the Mayan: with cinnamon.......There are a number of interesting deserts on the menu....We shared an almond/chocolate/raspberry cake.....yum! the raspberry sauce on top was the essence of the fruit, and what looked like whipped cream on the side turned out to be a cream cheese concoction...They also have a chocolate fondue (served with the usual fruit and pound cake) as well as a number of different types of truffles and home made chocolates for sale.....and home made ice creams, all with the chocolate theme. Tonight's special was chocolate jasmine. I'm not a huge chocolate lover, but I could learn to love this place! BTW, they've been open only three weeks and already the smallish room is SRO on Friday night. Our waitress was obviously running her butt off to keep up, but still managed to give us friendly good service!! Check it out.....a great place for a treat if you go to the Maxfield Parrish exhibit at the museum btw. The Chocolate Bar is at the corner where California, Liberty, and Arlington Streets all come together...
