Chinatown picks?

SF newbie | Apr 5, 2005 07:34 PM

I've generally found the restaurants in Chinatown (in SF) to be incredibly disappointing, which is too bad considering that I've had amazing Chinese in the east and south bay (my husband is Chinese and his family knows of many places in the East/South Bay).

Does anyone have recommendations for spots in Chinatown SF? I'm specifically looking for really great dim sum. Also looking for xiao long bao and chir su bao (pardon my poor spelling). Wouldn't mind a place that had a nice selection of hot teas as well.

Also, if anyone knows of any Taiwanese places that serve congee and those long, thin doughnuts, I'd love to hear about it!

Any thoughts? I heard Utopia is decent, but that's clay pot cuisine and I'm not really looking for that.
