Had lunch on Sunday at Yeah Shanghai Deluxe (peashoot xiao long bao, chicken with chestnut casserole, shrimp with broad beans, sauteed peashoots, all delicious - off the blackboard specials)- however, at 2 pm the dining room was empty except for one other table.
The restaurant is usually very busy at this time.
There was also much less foot traffic and stores such as Kam Man were relatively uncrowded.
Heard on Morning Edition today that Chinatown business owners are experiencing a general slump in business.
Are New Yorkers foolish enough to stay away from one of our greatest culinary resources because of the fear of a disease associated with China?
