While Xmas shopping awhile back, Mrs. Porker wanted to check out the menu of Chez Ping, a newish Chinese restaurant in the mall next to the SuperC on Newman in LaSalle (they've been there a couple of months). I don't have high hopes for stripmall restos, but this place showed promise.
Their menu is a bit peculiar - made up with pictures. Plates come in two sizes, small and large. However, it wasn't the menu, but the daily dim sum which interested us, plus being 3/4 full on a Thursday afternoon, plus all patrons were Asian. As a side, they renovated it in typical Chinese-hall style with chandeliers (a la Kam Fung Taschereau).
We returned Sunday morning about 10:30am with 2 friends. The place was empty, but full an hour later - again, we were the only westerners.
Their dim sum carts carried standard fare; har gow, sui mei, juk, chicken feet, beef tripe, pork tripe, mushroom dumpling, pork blackbean, beef rib, scallop dumpling, taro dumpling, etc etc.
Nothing spectacular, but honest, good fare.
For me, the advantages are close to home, saves me a drive to Chinatown or Brossard and free parking.
They say they have dim sum everyday, but being there on a Sunday, I can't vouch for weekdays (variety, times, etc). Perhaps not deserving a special trip, I recommend this place if its closer than other options for you. They apparently have a sister resto on Monk as the link below shows (don't know if they have dim sum there or not)
