i have some extremely particular guests coming into town. they love excellent food but absolutely hate a scene (in the words of one: "i'd rather spend my money on good food than on a place where the object is for people to look at us.").
so, i'm looking for a place with truly delicious food that doesn't require my father to wear a tie but also isn't totally dead. chez panisse in berkeley seems like a good example of that if anyone is familiar ...
suggestions? so far spring seems to be the front-runner; north pond sounds about right in terms of atmosphere but likely is a bit expensive.
