Chennai, India – A Taste of Gujerati at Shree Mithai

klyeoh | Apr 19, 2012 09:51 PM

Shree Mithai took up the whole 3 floors of this building in the upmarket district of Anna Nagar. My destination yesterday evening was the fine dining restaurant on the top-most floor, where a strictly vegetarian Gujerati menu was offered.

Starters was a vegetarian tandoori selection: sesame-encrusted potato patties, whole potatoes stuffed with cheese-raisins-spices, mashed-spiced-bean kebabs and golden-fried lentil dumplings.

- Dilpasand Malai Kofta – soft paneer-cottage-cheese-and-potato dumplings, stuffed with dried fruits, and cooked in a subtly-spiced sauce thickened with crushed nuts.

- Mutter Paneer – cottage cheese and green peas cooked in a spicy sauce.

- Selection of breads: Butter Naan, Lacha Parantha, Missi Masala Roti, Plain Roti. They were all very good.

Ended the meal with a "Kesar Pistach" (pistachio ice-cream). There was also a very rich, creamy milk drink filled with chopped almonds that was also very good (Kesar Badam milk).
