Chef to Go rave - PDX

If you work or live downtown (or visit downtown often), this lunch cart is a must-try. It is located to the rear of Nordstrom & across the street on Park & Yamhill and they take call-ahead orders: 503-730-1469. Their hours are 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

I am hooked - I go there at least once a week. They serve all vegetarian and vegan cuisine, but this is not your standard veg fare - it is absolutely wonderful! Organic ingredients, usually 2-3 vegan, one low-carb, and a few items containing cheese are featured on the special menu, which changes daily.

The prices run from $3.00 (for a 12-oz serving of soup w/grilled bread) to $5.50 (sandwich with chips or slaw or organic salad). The daily wrap is $4.50.

The regular menu includes a roasted eggplant sandwich; a vegan seitan caesar sandwich; panini grilled sandwich with tillamook cheddar, onion, roasted artichoke & sundried tomato; vegetarian B.L.T. made with fried provolone, organic tomatoes, & romaine; grilled marinated tofu sandwich; tofurkey sandwich; vegan burger; smart dog on a whole wheat bun, and incredible vegan sweets. They usually use Grand Central breads. There is always a special soup of the day served with grilled bread and often have some kind of tasty roasted potato salad or hot side dish.

Today's special menu has a grilled cheese sandwich on Grand Central como bread with roasted organic poblano peppers, roasted organic tomato & creamy Dutch fontina cheese. It is awesome! There is a daily vegan quick wrap - both of the ones I've tried (a spicy jerk seitan and an oriential grilled tofu w/spicy peanut sauce & fresh veggies) have been very good.

Can you tell I love this place? If you put your e-mail address on their sign-up list, you will get the next day's specials each evening.

Check it out!!!
