I've lived in the east Ukrainian Village for about eight months, and after an intensive search for the perfect steak burrito, and a liberal sampling of corn elote, I'm ready to turn to the Chowhounds for tips on cheap eats.
Any suggestions on good dives in these neighboroods? I'm specifically interested in good burritos, polish and ukrainian delis/bakeries, hot dog stands, bars with cheeseburgers, ribs and any other local treats I may not have stumbled upon.
I'll get the ball rolling. The most exciting steak burrito so far has come to me from La Pasadita, which has three branches on the same block of Ashland just south of Division: The basic package comes with perfectly charred steak, searing raw onions, and fresh cilantro and is a marvel of simplicity. El Chino on Milwaukee has an admirable pork burrito. The Alliance Bakery has met most of my pastry needs.
There is a Polish restaurant next the Chopin Theater at Milwaukee, Ashland and Division which I haven't mustered the energy to try yet--anyone eaten there?
