I got some excellent advice for places to eat in Naples on this board last year, so I wanted to put out a plea for some advice on cheap places to eat in Rome in March this year. I'm just going for a very short break with my Mum, and I'm looking for the following:
A place in Trastevere for a cheap late lunch on a Wednesday
Somewhere in/near Piazza Navona (preferably in the Piazza if possible) for a good value dinner on the Wednesday night.
Somewhere else for a cheap dinner on the Thursday night. I'm open to suggestions as to where in the city it would be nice to dine on our final evening in Rome, but it would make life easier if it was not 'off-the beaten track'. We'll be getting tickets on the red tourist bus to see all the sights on the Thursday, so somewhere not too far away from the Historical centre would be ideal (I have a terrible sense of direction, and last year got lost for two hours on my own at night looking for a particular restaurant - which I never found - so forgive me for my lack of adventurous-ness).
I like Trattorias and Osterias, and we're looking for a fairly authentic experience, but I dont mind tourist-y restaurants/cafes too much if the food is good and reasonably priced.
Thanks very much in advance.
