Recently I've noticed that the large chain restaraunts have been opening Manhattan locations outside of Times Square. There is an Olive Garden in Chelsea and an Outback in the Union Square area.
I can understand chain restaraunts in Times Square. Tourists in town for the day don't know the good local places and maybe don't want to bother with looking, so they go for the Olive Garden because they know what they will get.
But in Chelsea? Union Square? Have these areas become tourist destinations, or are New Yorkers not interested in the much better value and quality restaraunts that surround them?
