Went to Cello last night with my wife and four friends. As advertised, the place is absolutely beautiful with comfortable, reasonably spaced tables. The service was somewhat pretentious and highly mechanical, no warmth or enthusiasm. The food was beautifully presented and made of very high quality ingredients but tentatively seasoned. Someone compared it to the dining room of a fine hotel, where appearance was everything and creative taste unimportant. One oddity; two of our party had the ahi tuna appetizer which they loved. However, it was accompanied by a small salad which neither ate because it was excessively salted. When they mentioned it, in passing, to the waiter, he just nodded.
Given that the prix fixe ($72) is way up there, the consensus of our group was that they were glad to have checked the place out, but couldn't imagine returning.
