Hubby and I have an unexpected celebration coming up on a weeknight next week...on the same night that I need to attend a work-related reception at a Union Square hotel from about 5 to 7...Cost isn't really an issue, but here are the parameters that are making it a bit tough to choose:
So I'd like to have a nice dinner with good wine, somewhere in that area, but hubby would *really* rather not wear a jacket. My first choice would be Boulevard, but their first available reservation is not until late, and I am not a fan of eating late. I've thought about Rubicon, which I haven't eaten at in forever, but the menu just doesn't do anything for me (cinammon-scewered halibut???)...I do remember nja raving about the squab at Rubicon, but hubby is not fond of squab...and while the menu at Aqua sounds good, I've heard the tables are closely spaced: a major pet peave of mine when paying high end prices...
Any thoughts on Farallon? Haven't ever tried it either, and the decor does appeal to the diver in me.
Any other suggestions for someplace casually elegant, with outstanding food, a nice wine list, comfortable tables, in or around downtown, that would have space at around 7:30 or 8 on a few days notice?
Or should we just eat at the bar at Boulevard?
