Caravela in Tarrytown

After not having dined here in years, and reading that they recently added a new chef from Lisbon to the staff, we decided to try dinner the other night. It was excellent! We read the menu, which is actually divided into separate menus by region of Portugal while nibbling on complimentary chorizo slices and olives. We decided to share an appetizer of stuffed calamari, which were four small calamari stuffed with a linguica and vegetable stuffing in a flavorful sauce just right for dipping the crusty/airy bread. The kitchen divided and separately plated the appetizer for us, which is a huge service plus to me. The wine we chose was unavailable, and a same priced wine was recommended which was excellent. For mains we had the paella valenciana, which was a large portion full of various meats and fresh seafood, and the soft shell crab, which were two HUGE crabs in a lemon butter caper sauce with fresh asparagus. Also accompanying the mains were black beans and a platter of fresh vegetables. For dessert we shared a fabulous meringue, served over caramel sauce and slivered almonds--also split and separately plated for us. Looking forward to leftover paella for lunch today!
