I hate to offend anyone's sensibilities by writing about a chain, but I'm a huge fan of Carabba's, on Street Road in Bensalem (I know it's a chain because I saw another one in South Jersey). Anyway, this is absolutely one of my favorite places, and it's pretty convenient if you have a car (near 95, Rt. 1 and the PA Tpke).
First, the bread. Pretty good, but it melts in your mouth when you dip it in the olive oil and dried spices they provide. Caesar salad is good - chilled, provides a nice compliment to the bread. Entree - every time I go, I order the Spiedino di Mare, which is breaded and fried scallops and shrimp covered with a garlic lemon sauce. That description doesn't do it justice, though. It's got a tangy bite to it, and it is best served with the Fettucine Alfredo, which is very creamy and cheesy.
It's not high-brow stuff. They've got an okay selection of wines to go with it, but it's mostly a moderately-priced, stand-alone, visually appealing suburban restaurant in the tradition of Olive Garden, Bertucci's, Outback, etc. If you live in the area, you've probably driven by it many times, but I never realized, until I went there, how much I would like it.
