Went back to Canteen on Saturday for lunch. Showed up at around 12:30 and were told we'd have a 20 minute wait. That turned into 45 minutes. A bummer, but we ended up with two seats at the counter and were happy.
I had the eggs benedict which was great -- finally, real Hollandaise made by hand. Easily the best EB I've had in SF, but I am admittedly spoiled as EB is one of Mom's specialties. My friend had the cream cheese & salmon omelette which was awesome. So so good.
Brunch/lunch at Canteen is an amazing value. Two entrees plus a coffee and soda for under $30 including tip. The quality of food here is just so top-notch. I can't believe the next day I paid around the same amount for a ho-hum lunch for 2 at Hayes Valley greasy spoon Flippers. Also -- the atmosphere at Canteen is much more suited to brunch/lunch than dinner. This is my favorite spot in the city right now...more so as a daytime spot than an evening spot.
