I've just opened a can of chickpeas to find that instead of being loose in a salt and water solution, the salt water has solidified so that it looks like the chickpeas are suspended in a clear jelly. It's like a can of pet food! Are they still OK to eat? Any idea what has happened to them? I've never seen this happen before.
The can isn't passed it's expiry date and didn't seem to be punctured in any way.
