John Manzo recently gave a report of lunch at the Siding Cafe so today I tried it for breakfast.
As I have previously posted, I am an egg's bennedict aficionado (or so I like to think...), my favourite being when they are served on a freshly baked scone.
Soooo delighted was I when I found the "Build your own Benny" menu, with a choice of ham, chicken, bacon, salmon or tomatoes, all served on a warm, light and perfectly baked cheese scone. I chose the salmon option and the salmon was peachy and plump, not that horrid orange wafer thin and salted stuff - this was top notch and my eggs were cooked to perfection and topped with just enough hollandaise which had a very well balanced flavour.
Benny's are served with housemade hashbrowns and toast (not sure why you need the toast unless your on a carb kick but are nevertheless delicious). The other options looked interesting and the room is funky and fun for something different downtown. Very upscale diner and I echo what John said as we need this downtown.
I think Avenue Diner, located a block away, lacks that certain zing that sister eatery Diner Deluxe carries off so naturally. Siding Cafe was quiet as its early days but lets hope that it gets the buzz.
