The Cakery and Flatblack Coffee, Dorchester Lower Mills

I happened to be in Dorchester Lower Mills yesterday and noticed a joint on Dorchester Ave called The Cakery. Hoping to satisfy my sweet tooth, I went in and bought a slice of lemon meringue pie and an apple turnover. They weren't just bad - they were awful. The crust on the pie had practically disintegrated it was so soggy and the lemon part barely tasted of lemons at all. The apple turnover was so stale I threw it away after two bites. Really a shame because the counter server couldn't have been nicer.

I also stopped for a hot chocolate at Flatblack Coffee, just around the corner and it was a totally different experience. A delicious drink served at just the right temperature, a hip space with interesting design magazines and, according to a sign in the window, free wireless Internet. If I lived nearby, I'd be a regular.
