cafecito review--mmmm

Thanks to the Brooklyn 'hounds who steered me away from Court St's Cafe Cubano and over to the East Village's Cafecito instead (on Ave C between 11th and 12th Sts.) It was a perfect spot for a date--candlelit and pretty inside but still casual (I definitely want to return on my own for lunch at the formica counter in the front room). Good music, nice vibe, and very generous portions. My date had the shrimp with garlic--a bowl of fat shrimp in a very buttery garlic sauce, served with a huge scoop of yellow rice and three big maduro plantains--it definitely helped her homesick-for-Florida cravings! I had the churrasco, two big flaps of good skirt steak with potent chimichurri sauce, black beans, rice and more maduros (you can also get tostones if you prefer). Lots of other tasty-looking things on the menu--will definitely go back. One tiny quibble is that the prices on the check are a few dollars more than the prices on the menu--not a huge surprise, but a bit of a surprise nonetheless. (Also, cash only, although there's a bodega on the corner with an ATM)
