Cafe Portugalia

first,
stay tuned for an announcement about the next DDC dinner.

Checked out Cafe Portugalia last night.
I believe it's the former Ideal, which was the former Cafe Espresso, as I understand it.
(I never went to or saw either.)
738 adams ave. phila, PA 19124

Very good food, I liked it a lot.

the bread we didn't like so much, it was cold, and just everyday crusty bread that i imagine to be very Iberian.

We had the (1) flaming sausage (yes it does) and the (2) quails for apps for $9 each.

the sausage is really densely packed and full of flavor, and the quails were nice and crisp and also tasty as [insert odorific adjective].

then we had the thinly sliced steaks marinated in Madeira wine, and the pork chops in olive oil and garlic.

The pork chops were a little overdone, but still very good. but the steaks were better, just enough madeira.

both came with small salads with balsamic, and french fries (good McDonald's type fries fried in golden oil, but inappropriate for the food) and the steak came with white rice, but i think they just forgot to put the rice with the pork chops.

we also had the vasco red wine. decent, slightly sweet, went down well with everything.

service wasn't so good at the beginning, but got better. they were busier at the beginning, but i won't let that be an excuse.
one of the waitresses was very inexperienced, while the other one and the two waiters/men helping out seemed capable as well.

definitely worth a second trip (if for no other reason than I found the waitress attractive :-)) to see if the staff got better, b/c the food was definitely very well done.

stay tuned for an announcement about the next DDC dinner.
