So, I was very excited of the new addition to my nabe, Cafe Martier, which is located on 2nd bet 53rd and 54th. The Balthazar pastries, Illy coffee and fancy desserts are just great.
I decided to go here for breakfast yesterday with my parents who were in town. My dad ordered the waffles and my mom and I ordered eggs with toast. When the meals arrived I noticed there was no butter for my dad's waffles and no jam for our toast. I politely asked the inattentive and snotty Eurpoean waitress/countergirl to bring some of both which she quickly did. We were brought 2 foil wrapped pats of butter and two sample sized strawberry jellies in plastic containers. Each jelly was about a tablespoon. We never used the jelly b/c we didn't eat our toast and joked with my mom if she wanted to put them in her purse to bring home.
Upon recepit of the bill my dad said they charged us for the jelly. We laughed. He said no, I am serious. They charged us for the jelly AND the butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can you serve waffles and charge a patron for butter and serve toast and charge for jelly! Obviously, this was not noted on the menu and we were not told we would be charged when we asked for it.
When I mentioned to the waitress on our way out that they should probably disclose this she literally walked away with no comment.
Never again...and I really loved their coffee...but never again!
