Stopped into the replacement for King Tut, in Brookline Village. Cafe Kookoo is owned by the former owners of the Bean and Leaf, downtown. They bought it from the KT guy, who retired someplace warm. They've kept the Middle eastern menu, but added fresh baked goods, quirky American sandwiches, and some Iranian specialties. (one for an Iranian frittatta with herbs I had previously seen a recipe for in the Globe).
BUT, they're redone the space, and it's a cozy little warren, with exposed brick wall, warm colors and several tables, which, despite their modest number, seem to really invite lingering. And it's open on Saturdays! I didn't have time to eat, but will definitely be back.
