When I was a Kid My mother would often drag me down to Newport RI for the Day for some Sightseeing and Antiquing. Among the Highlights was having chowder at what I thought was the Black Pearl restaurant but I think i'm mistaken. The chowder was thinner and lighter in texture than the ones I was used to, it seemed to have more of a buttery flavor than cream flavor, there were fresh herbs on top and I think I remember a shot of something in it, because there were little pools of golden liquid floating on top.
The reason I think it was not the Black Pear is I bought a can of their chowder from a Place in Providence and it was nothing like what I remember.
My Wife and I will be in Newport on Friday and was wondering if anyone knew what I was talking about and knew where we could get it.
