new Butcher's for brunch

We were heading over to Sabrina's this morning and the wait gave us a reason to optimistically try the new Butcher's. It sure would be nice to have another fine brunch place in the rotation.

Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed. Nothing like the Sabrina's quality - surprising with the supposed poaching of the former Sabrina's chef.

Started with coffee - watery and with the standard Philly single-serving creamer packs (anyone notice how much Philly likes packaging - single-serving indsutrial foodservice cream, butter, jam - ick).

We had Eggs Benedict, which came with a garlicky, watery sauteed spinach that completely overpowered the rest of the dish. And the eggs were completely overpoachched - solid all the way through.

Homefries were undercooked in some places.

My omelette wasn't bad - nice thick-cut chunks of bacon and roasted red peppers. But the cheese - slices of American.

Seemed to me like perhaps a busboy was filling in that day for the chef.

As for service - the waitress tried but seemed really nervous and awkward. Almost made you want to say, "it will be okay."

Sabrina's and Morning Glory - still definitely worth the wait.
