Burrito Buggy

I have always avoided Burrito Buggy. It has an odd name that I always confused with Burrito Beach, a horrifying Mexican food chain that I had the displeasure of trying at O'Hare a while back. Recently, however, while searching for quality lunch options in the Loop, I came across a number of recommendations for Burrito Buggy and their BBQ chicken burrito. Being a bit desperate and loving BBQ chicken, I though I'd give it a try.

The verdict: Good.

The BBQ chicken burrito combines grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, diced tomatoes, cheese, barbeque sauce, and cilantro wrapped in a fairly thin yet sturdy tortilla. While I was a bit dubious about the mashed potato base, it works well. It adds a different, smoother texture. There is plenty of chicken. The tortilla isn’t too thick which is important. Often on burritos, I get near the end and at the folds there is tortilla overload. Not the case here. There could have been a bit more barbeque sauce, but that’s not a major complaint. Bottom line, this burrito isn’t anything close to authentic, but who cares. It’s tasty.

I’ve also recently tried other special items, the jerk chicken and the roast beef burritos. They were both OK, but not great. The jerk was slightly better. I haven’t tried the any of their actual Mexican items. That will be next. The BBQ chicken burrito is available only on Tuesday and Thursday.
