What to do with a bunch of plums?

A friend just dropped off nearly a tree's worth of what I think are either little plums or Italian prune plums (I think just regular -- there is some green on the skin).

I can not decide on a recipe to make! I was thinking about plum crisp (inspired by Sarah Leah Chase and Ina Garten)...then I recall the plum kuchen recipe from NYT from not long ago.

There was some talk awhile back about the same recipe -- which calls for those italian prune plums.

What about traditional plum recipes? I'm thinking most likely a fruit centric dessert -- like a crisp --- that I can serve with vanilla ice cream.

Do you have a favorite preparation you recommend that I should try?
