For almost two weeks now, I have been taking my lunch break at the Brown Sugar Cafe, near the intersection of Comm and Brighton. This area is packed with Thai restaurants and the BSC is head and shoulders about the rest. While many Thai places are corrupted by large, chinese food distributors, the BSC maintains it Thai backround. The slogan "Thai flavors, American tastes" expresses an American influence, but the influence only shows in the titles of some dishes, like the dish Some Young Guys. Tho, I am not a Thai expert, I think I can judge American influence and their is little of it here. For example, there is no Buffalo Chicken Curry or anything like that.
I have yet to be disappointed with my meals at the BSC and the prices are low enough that I haven't been bringing my own food to work.
I've generally been ordering the combo specials ($5.95 for entree, spring roll and salad) and every one I've had so far has been great. The Mango Curry combo is good enough that I've ordered it twice now, which is a rarity for me. The Chicken Cashew (possibly American) is exceptional, tho the price hike to $6.95, seems unwarranted.
I haven't had a chance to try any of the seafood offerings, so if any of you do, let me know.
I hear there is another BSC in Boston and I am eager to check it out sometime.
