Brother’s Deli, Burlingame

Brother’s Deli and Restaurant (1351 Howard Ave., 650-343-2311) was opened in 1962 by Lou Ronson at the original location in San Mateo. In 1979, the Hou family from Taiwan bought the place. It was sold in 1995 to another Chinese family, the Lo’s. Linked below is my prior rec for the pastrami.

Sunday I stopped by Brother’s to grab a couple sandwiches to go. This had been my pick for best pastrami in the area. Now I’m not so sure. The pastrami was excessively peppery and the texture was rubbery and tight-grained rather than soft and marbled. I’d try it again to be sure this wasn’t a one-off, but I can’t help but be concerned that the pastrami may have gone downhill. My brother and I were both disappointed in the pastrami, but agreed that the other sandwich of corned tongue was as good as ever.

Recently it expanded to a second location:

Brother’s Juice Bar, Coffee Shop and Deli
1155 California Dr. (at Broadway)
