This was our first time in the Wine Country and after much research and asking around, we decided to have Sunday Brunch at Brix...we can not say enough about this place. The brunch was outstanding. Simple but yet so delicious. What can I say about their pizza? Outstanding, in fact, we had several slices. The crust was melting in our mouths. They had a Chorizo Eggs Benedict on a tortilla....bursted with flavor and a bit of heat. Yumm. The desserts...miniature but hey.....what's a few Chocolate Mocha Cupcakes, homemade cookies that were mini Oreos, Nutter Butter, and LInzer...The service was attentive and all in all, we will go back again. Then...with hesitation after reading the boards etc., we went ahead to Bottega, Michael Chiarello's place for dinner. We got a 9:00 p.m. reservations and believe it or not, they kept us waiting because they were waiting for our table to leave...they paid the check, but they were just sitting. Were there not other 4 seaters? After going back twice to ask when we will be able to sit down, the hostess offered us Proseco on the house. We turned it down. Finally, we sat down and our waiter was on a 0 to 10 scale, a 3. ...and I'm being generous. If the food is not to par but the service is great, then all in all, we can say its fine. That wasn't the case. He was inattentive (we would ask him a question and he was looking at other tables). He barely came to our table. When we asked about certain dishes, he was still looking around and barely gave a description that we would be interested in. I have to give the Caprese Salad a 9...excellent. When we finally got our dinners....presentation was a bit questionable. The fish came whole and was in a weird shape...as if the fish was flying out of the water, but not enticing. Wasn't sure if we were to throw it back in the water. The lamb, okay. The short ribs excellent. Then when we asked about dessert...he insisted the Truffles out of Dark Chocolate and Parmesan was fantastic. Wrong. IT was not. We will not go back.
The lunch we had at Silverado Golf Course.....great lunch. Delicious. Great Service.
The dinner we had at Cindy's Backstreet in St. Helena....excellent. We loved the Caesar Salad and the Papaya/Avocado Salad..excellent. Our dinners (steak, chicken with Salsa/Avocado, and Halibut) were memorable. The Campfire dessert.......they had us at Marshmallow Fluff.....So all in all...not bad for 3 out of 4.
