Okay, so Bricco was pretty darn good

Stopped in last night for a light bite. Sat at the bar (great service) and tried a stuffed zucchini flower appetizer and a 1/2 order of the gnocchi with wild boar.

I do think the prices are a bit on the stoooopid expensive side, but I found the portions to be quite sizeable AND this is the first time in a while that Italian food here reminded me of Italian food I sampled in Italy.

The zucchini flowers were filled with cheese (though I prefer the preparation with tuna) and it was a little overstuffed for me but wow, so good. Two huge blossoms - oh my they were perfectly fried just like the best fritto misto in Rome - were served over a giant pile of grilled vegetables (lots of onions) but also eggplant and zucchini (IIRC). They left a bit of the flower stem on, which I loved - sweet, light zucchini flavor with a bit of crunch.

The 1/2 order of gnocchi was BIG. The gnocchi were tubular and not hand-formed. Longer, larger surface area, 2 bites each, light and fluffy. The wild boar was so rich and amazing, a far better preparation than those I've tried at Via Matta and La Morra. The texture is like the softest stewed meat and it had just the right level of gaminess.

Most everything was perfectly seasoned, though the grilled veggies on the app needed a little salt, I thought. An app, 1/2 order of pasta and 2 glasses of wine came to $60, not cheap but good. Makes me wish for a higher tax bracket....
