B&R Breads Report

JT | Mar 27, 2006 08:26 PM

Finally got over to B&R breads this morning around 10:00. There was still a good amount of the day's selections remaining. Our purchases:

Apricot Brioche: Nicely eggy and apricots were a great choice because their sweet/tart quality and firm texture worked well with the slightly sweet bread.

Croissant: One of the two best I've had in recent years. Yum.

Almond Scone: Eh. I had only a small bit of this as I'm not a huge fan of scones but my companion who is enjoyed it. Definitely on the dense side.

Ginger-Molasses Petit Pan: Hands Down winner from the sweets side. moist texture, great crumb, strong but not overpowering molasses flavor in the bread and very generously laced with pieces of homemade candied ginger. Yowza!

Country Round: Delicious Crusty loaf. Dipped it in Olive oil with dinner tonight.

These folks know what they're doing and I wish them well. The prices are very low. This shop in Boston would charge at least double and in Framingham the only other place to get close to this quality is the Iggy's stock at Whole Foods. I'd certainly rather give my money to the nice folks at B&R. Working against them is that there is no way to know about them save word of mouth. No sign on the store save a bread paddle with the name hanging inside the door. So spread the word folks!
