DH wants my Christmas list. I want a book on cake decorating that will inspire with photos of a big variety of styles of cakes. I don't care so much about recipes. If the book has a couple of good ones, that's a bonus, but it's really not what I'm looking for because I can always find recipes. Information on decorating techniques would be welcome, but my first priority is a book that shows a lot of pictures of different cakes. I'm interested in buttercream and fondant/gum paste, but if I had to pick one over the other, I'd say fondant/gum paste.
I've been browsing online and the ones that seem most promising so far are a couple of Collette Peters' books and maybe Sylvia Weinstock's. Kerry Vincent's book also seems to have a lot of detailed instruction in it, which is good, but it only seems to show about two dozen cakes. Does anyone know? I notice a number of CHers discussing The Cake Bible lately, but I'm under the impression that that is more of a general cake-making book? Am I correct about that?
Thanks if you have opinions to offer on these or can recommend other books that would allow me simply to look at lots of pretty (and varied) cakes.
