The Book and the Cook--Zanzibar Blue

Went to the book and the cook dinner at Zanzibar Blue this past Sunday night and had a great time. The meal was fabulous. We start off with "Tribeca Teasers" --a platter with tequila-lime chicken with cilantro dressing--wok seared king sesame shrimp--wild mushroom risotto"bombs"--rossini crostini foie gras, mushroom, filet canape(everything on the platter was excellent esp. the chicken -very moist and tender --first time chicken melted in my mouth).Next course was the appetizer(we could pick from two)we both choose the lavender skewered scallops white bean and shrimp salad--very good but could not taste any lavender(he used the lavender stems to hold the scallops up on the plate).Entrees where Crab crusted sea bass with braised endive, pinenut polenta and red wine fume or Grilled ribeye of beef with warm potatoes, bacon and leeks--we both picked the sea bass very very good except for the braised endive (this is the 2nd time I've had cooked endive and I just don't like it as much as in it's raw state). Our desserts were the highlight of the meal--my girlfriend had the applesauce cake with berries and cinnamon sugar walnut ice cream--very good but even better was the Tribeca Chocolate torte(which I had heard so much about from people in New York)layers of chocolate cake ,chocolate custard and ganache,it was sinful, everything I was told it would be and then some. Price for this event was $45.00 plus tip and tax and drinks. Chef Don came out of the kitchen to talk and sell his cookbook. Almost forgot to mention that while we dined on this fab meal the jazz group "Friends" played and Gloria Allende sang--what a voice--what a great evening.
